"DC is Robbing Us All and We're Allowing It"
Ok, where to begin with this? So this past weekend, me and a few of the homies went to see a movie that's has been hyped up for the better part of a year, and that film is named 'Suicide Squad.' I was personally excited for this movie for a multitude of reasons; one being that the unofficial prequel movie before it, "Batman vs. Superman"*I cringe every time I say this movie* has been 12 hard earned bucks I'll never see again. I was also here for the new, edgier rendition of the Clown Prince of Crime in the Joker, not to mention the on-screen debut of the easily one DC's most polarizing female figures in Harley Quinn. Let me not forget, it also had the guy that was in Hancock, I forget his name... This movie was supposed to restore my faith in the DC franchise and instantly make up for that two and a half-hour steaming hot plate of basura Batman/Superman movie. For once in my life, I was sadly mistaken.
Not only did Suicide Squad stink up the joint it also dug DC into an even bigger critical hole given we still haven't recovered from BvS. I guess you can blame it on multiple things, production delays, bad chemistry amongst the actors, one trick pony directors, but what I think it all boils down to is that DC Comics JUST DONT CARE...
Gotta realize at this point, all DC is doing is playing catch up to Disney/Marvel. Marvel changed the cinematic game with its film universe and is bringing in whole new audiences in the process, not to mention crossing over into the tv, and they're doing it with characters that nobody cared for pre-2008. I mean I have female friends that only care about Beyoncé and Michael B Jordan, and they're having conversations with me about Daredevil and Jessica Jones. DC sees this and their trying to join the wave. DC's problem since like the 70s regarding film was, if it ain't have Batman or Superman, nobody gave a shit. Now they're impatiently trying to create their little cash cow with its cinematic universe and here lies the problem. Everything DC is doing is being shoved down our throats, all so we can be hyped up for the DCs answer to the Avengers in "Justice League". When you're dumping hundreds of millions into production and casting A-List actors to drive up the hype, it's safe to assume people will show out just for the sake of being in tune with future projects. It feels as if all of the DC projects are merely being used as "Pawns" to drive interest for the upcoming JL movie, unlike Marvel where every movie in their universe was genuinely adequate on their merit with little or not so obvious allusions to the cinematic universe.
What is boils down to is we all know DC is on the losing side of this cinema war with Marvel, yet we still give them our hard earned pennies off the strength that they're finally giving us shit, I mean projects we've been asking for since Gawd knows when. It's like when you've been waiting for your order at the drive through for so long that when you get home and notice not only did they put pickles on your burger, but they also forgot your fries. You just sit there and take the L, because you're too hungry to drive back into town, plus it still won't stop you from going back to that joint shortly because you grew up on that food, that pretty much explains everyone's situation with the DC Cinematic Universe.
